50 Days to More: Day Six

50 Days to More

A Seven Week Campaign to Begin 2018

Week 1: Knowing the True Source of all Increase in Your Life

Day Six (1/12/18): The Promise of Deuteronomy
Recommended Reading: Deuteronomy 1:1-8

Deuteronomy is the “second law” that God gave to Moses for the new generation of Israelites. This is the book where we find the ten commandments. Before Moses teaches the Israelites about the new laws that they are to follow, he says this to the people:

“The Lord your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as numerous as the stars of heaven. May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you, as he has promised you!” Deuteronomy 1:10–11 (ESV)

It’s safe to say that the Israelites faced many struggles up until this point. They wrestled with rebellion, lack of faith in God, and doubt that they would ever make it to the Promised Land. Here in verses 10 and 11, Moses is reminding the people of Israel of the beautiful promise of God (Sometimes we all need to be reminded of God’s promises, don’t we?).

Their founding father Abraham was given this great promise. The Lord told him that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky and sands on the seashore. This was a promise of natural and spiritual blessing. If you’ve ever attempted to count all the grains of sand on the seashore or stars in the sky (hopefully for the sake of your sanity, you have not), it’s easy to see that natural descendants can never be that numerous. However, there are many spiritual descendants of Abraham (like us!), and those numbers really start to add up.

This reminder that Moses gave the Israelites was not just an encouragement to them, but it was also prophetic. We’ve learned in the past two days that God promised Job a double portion and promised the disciples a hundredfold return. Based on the original promise made to Abraham, we can see that God promised Israel 1,000 times more as well!

This point cannot be stressed enough: God makes us God-sized promises and he is faithful to follow through. However, he does not just hand them over automatically. Money doesn't grow on trees, not even trees in the garden of Eden! The Israelites gold was there; God told them the exact land to find gold and other valuable stones (see Genesis 2:11-12), but they still had to go get it.

Today, dwell on the fact that every promise of Abraham is available to those in the Church who will take it by faith! God’s promise to Abraham was made not only to him, but also to his descendants. His descendants are any of us who are in Christ!

According to The Lord’s promises to Abraham for 1,000 times more, we are believing God for 1,000 times more:

  • Peace

  • Joy

  • Love

  • Finances

  • Wisdom

  • Miracles

  • Victories

  • Favor

  • Ideas and

  • People

Be encouraged by these bold things we are believing God for in our lives. Take time to pray for each one specifically and declare them over yourself!

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15 ESV
