Recommended Reading: Genesis 3:1-7

Day Two (1/8/18): Satan's Deception Concerning Increase: Part I

For every good thing God gives His children, Satan creates a lie or counterfeit in an attempt to steal that gift from us. This is especially true in the area of increase.

We must come to a place where we truly believe that it is God’s desire for us to have more. In order to do that, we need to recognize the lies that the enemy uses to distort God’s desire to bless us with more.

1. Satan creates doubt that God wants you to have more.

When you think about the fact that Christianity is centered around having faith in God, it’s plain to see that doubt is a huge issue. God’s only pleasure is to be believed, and His only pain is to be doubted. All God asks is for us to have faith in Him, and Satan attempts to barricade us with doubt in order to hinder us.

When God created the very first humans, Satan wasted no time instilling doubt in them (Genesis chapter 3). Satan’s very first deception was leading Adam and Eve to believe that God didn’t want them to have more.

God placed Adam and Eve in the perfect environment. Anything they could have ever wanted was available to them. Best of all, they had constant fellowship with God Himself.

We all know how the story ends. Satan deceived Eve into thinking that God forbade them from eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil so that they wouldn’t be like Him.

Lie. Adam and Eve were already like God! They were created in His very image. The only thing that came from eating the forbidden fruit was separation from God.

Thousands of years later, this lie lives on. Satan is still declaring this message and God’s people have been believing it ever since. He wants us to believe that God is holding out on us.

2. Satan makes us feel guilty for even desiring more.

The enemy effectively convinces us that the desire to prosper is evil and not of God. But let this be your encouragement today: The desire for more is a God-given passion instilled deep within us by the very One who created us! Everything that God touches prospers. Every word He speaks leads to increase. He is the God who took nothingness and created the entire universe! That same God wants to produce and multiply good things in our lives.

Tomorrow we continue in learning about lies 3-5, but why don’t you spend the rest of today dwelling on these first two. It will change how you see everything around you, God desires for you to be blessed!

“Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of light with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”  - James 1:16-17 (ESV)
