Day Forty (2/15/18): Uncommon Champions
Recommended Reading: Proverbs 18:4-21
Uncommon champions habitually speak words of faith, hope, confidence, and expectation. All throughout the Bible, there are scriptures that talk about the power of the tongue. Our words have the power to hurt, help, lift up, tear down, and much more.
“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4 (NIV)
When we think about the power of the tongue, the first thing that comes to mind is other people. We focus on the importance of building up our loved ones and encouraging them verbally. While it might be easy to use our words to lift up other people, it’s just as important to use words to lift up ourselves. People who are uncommon champions understand this very well.
Speaking out your faith in God helps to build faith in yourself. When we have faith that God is who he says he is--and believe that we are who he says we are--we can expect the impossible! Knowing that God will always have your back and that he has created you for special assignments helps you to accomplish anything.
When you speak about your goals with hope and expectation, you begin to cultivate the desired outcome. People always stress the importance of thinking positively, and it’s just as important to speak positively. Something powerful happens when you say to yourself, “I know I can do this. It’s going to happen!” No matter what kind of goals you have or what things you want to achieve, a healthy mindset really is significant. Verbalizing these positive thoughts helps to give confidence not only in God, but in yourself! It’s true that God can give us strength and grace to accomplish our goals, but we have to believe that he can and put in work to get there.
Expectation is also important if we want to be uncommon champions. It offends God when we pray for something or know that he has called us to something, but we still doubt it. When God promises us greatness, why shouldn’t we expect that we will achieve it?
Perhaps there are dreams and goals that you have and you aren’t too confident about them. Consider this devotional and test out the power of words. Speak out in faith, to God and to yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror, speak positively to yourself, and help yourself believe that you’re capable of being an uncommon champion!
