Day Ten (1/16/18): The Uncommon Dream and Your Destiny
Recommended Reading: Jeremiah 29:10-14
Although God does speak to us about the plans he has for us through dreams and visions, they aren’t necessarily a divine prediction of our future. However, they are revelations of a divine possibility. Having a relationship with The Lord is a two-way street. While he does have specific plans for all of our lives and promises to lead us to them, it takes work on our part as well.
Let’s say that someone has a dream that they’re going to become the manager of the store they work at. That’s something that takes a lot of work, extra hours, and diligence in order to achieve. But what if they aren’t working harder than any other employee at their job? What if they claimed that they don’t need to do anything different because they “have a dream”? There are a lot of people who have dreams and goals but aren’t willing to work towards them. They simply cling to the idea of their dream and hope that if they want it enough, they’ll get there someday. Unfortunately, that’s not a dream. The possession of a dream without the willingness to work toward it is only a fantasy.
The uncommon dream is a divine photograph of your future that is inspired by the Holy Spirit. We have the tendency to think of our future as being far off, wondering if we’ll ever even achieve it. That is not true! God gave us our dreams, and he wouldn’t give them to us if they weren’t attainable. They are closer than we think! Although it may take sacrifice and a lot of hard work to get there, God promises to see us through. The good news is that our dreams really can come true, if we work for them and don’t expect to get them handed to us.
The uncommon dream will birth an uncommon life. That is exactly what happened with Joseph. He was set apart from his brothers when he was very young, and that’s because of his dream. Everyone knew he was different; even his father loved him more than his other brothers (See Genesis 37:3).
This uncommon dream became his destiny. He saw himself differently and everyone else saw it, too. He embraced it and dealt with being treated differently. And his dream birthed an uncommon life. Like Joseph, we need to embrace our uncommon destiny if we want to live an uncommon life.
What difference would you like to make in this life? What do you want to be? What do you want to do? The answer to these questions is your destiny.
What is your dream job? Think about something you love doing so much that you would do it for free. Now, imagine if you were able to get paid to do it! That’s what a dream job really is. Do you have enough faith to believe that God can put you in your dream job? Do you have the determination to work for it? Accept the challenge to think about your answers to these questions today. Ask God what you can do in order to work harder toward your true destiny!
