Week 6: Creating Success in Your Daily Routine

Day Forty-Two (2/17/18): People of Uncommon Energy
Recommended Reading: Daniel 1:8-21

Having enough energy to fuel your day is so important to being successful. We can make all kinds of plans and goals but if we don’t have the physical drive to carry them out, what’s the point? Two very important factors that play a role in our energy levels are diet and exercise.

Diet and exercise aren’t really things that are a normal topic for discussion in the Church as a whole. However, taking care of our bodies is the only way we can ensure that we’re physically capable of fulfilling our God-given assignment. God gave us our specific bodies for a reason and designed them purposefully. Now it’s our job to care for them!

It’s common for us to want to stay far away from the word “diet”. Having to restrict dietary choices isn’t always fun (or tasty). But the word “diet” in general is defined as “food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and its effects on health.” It’s being mindful of what we put into our bodies and eating not only to satisfy hunger, but to fuel and nourish our bodies. Fueling our bodies through what we eat doesn’t have to mean that we can’t enjoy certain types of foods. It’s all about moderation.

Every day, we should strive to eat foods that are good for our bodies. What we put into our bodies is what we will get out. If we only eat foods that are processed and not nutritional, we tend to feel sluggish and unmotivated. By doing research and talking with our doctors, we can learn exactly what foods our bodies need. Forming the habit of eating well every day will give us the energy we need to be successful and stay motivated.

Exercise is also a crucial component to staying energized. Just like our “diet”, exercise doesn’t have to be drastic or rigid. Just adding 15 or 20 minutes of walking each day can improve our energy levels immensely. When we exercise, endorphins are released in our bodies which make us feel happier and can reduce stress (you can read more about this at: www.webmd.com/depression/guide/exercise-depression#1).

Exercising literally makes our bodies happy! Feeling better physically and mentally is a key component to staying focused each day. If you’re interested in getting on a path to exercise more, talk to your doctor to figure out exactly what is right for you!

Like we said earlier this week, when you perform an act for 21 consecutive days without fail, it will become a habit. With that said, challenge yourself to eat better and add some exercise to your daily routine for three weeks. See how different it makes you feel. Taking care of our bodies is our responsibility. It improves our quality of life and helps us to execute all God has called us to do!

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)
